While we aren’t decking the halls, trimming the tree, or capturing the magical holiday moments just yet, it’s never too early to start planning your special Santa portrait outfits.

While the holidays may not be right around the corner, registration for our annual Santa Mini Sessions is just around the corner. This is one of our favorite mini session experiences of the year, and we can’t wait to bring the 2024 excitement to you!
One of the biggest questions we see while preparing for these sessions is, “What should we wear.” We wanted to take this early opportunity to share our best tips and tricks for what to wear for Santa portraits so you’ll have plenty of time to shop (or borrow) the perfect look.
What to Wear for Santa Portraits | Your Outfit Guide for Santa Mini Sessions
Coordinating, Not Matching
Gone are the days of perfectly matching outfits—unless they’re pajamas, of course. While coordination is key, a cohesive color palette is best.
Neutrals like cream, ivory, and beige are timeless and pair beautifully with festive pops of red, green, and burgundy. Plaids, snowflakes, and fair isle patterns add a touch of holiday whimsy without being overly matchy-matchy.
Cozy Comfort is Key
Remember, your little ones (and maybe even you!) will be most comfortable and relaxed in outfits that allow for movement and fun.
Think soft knits, leggings, and comfy dresses. For older children, consider a button-down shirt or a cozy sweater vest.
Accessorize with Joy
The right accessories can elevate your entire look and add a touch of personality to your photos. A festive headband or a pair of sparkly earrings can add a touch of holiday cheer.
A Few Pro Tips
Avoid busy patterns and neon colors. They can be distracting in photos.
Bring a change of clothes. Accidents happen, especially with little ones! Plus, you’re more than welcome to dress your little ones at the studio to avoid messes on the way.
