DC Birth Photographer | Jack’s Fresh 48 Session

As a DC birth photographer, Fresh 48 Sessions are some of the most meaningful. And for this family, it was a long-awaited dream come true.

The Fresh 48 Session

I love these sessions for so many reasons. As a DC newborn and motherhood photographer, I’m often invited into clients’ homes for their sessions, and they’re often in my studio throughout their baby’s first year. But being asked to document some of the first moments with their new baby in the hospital (or birthing center) brings me so much joy, especially as a mom!

Looking at my own babies, I can sometimes glimpse the tiny newborn features they had when we first met them. These precious little ones change so much, so quickly. Even within the first few weeks, memorizing their little features is mesmerizing.

Fresh 48 sessions are the perfect way to document some of your baby’s first few hours in your arms. These intimate sessions are the perfect way to document new introductions with siblings, and they’re great for parents who want these early moments captured without the entire birth experience. If you’re curious about the experience, you can find more information here and see images of some of my favorite Fresh 48 moments.

Baby Jack

Jack’s family was a referral from one of my dearest friends in the photography industry, who also happens to be my brand photographer. The photo industry, while massive, always ends up feeling like such a small world, and it means so much when photographer friends trust me with their recommendations. I’m so thrilled she introduced me to this crew.

Initially, we were supposed to document their first baby’s Fresh 48, but covid had other ideas, and we weren’t allowed. It’s been so special to photograph both of their babies, but to actually make her fresh 48 dreams come true was such a joy! Plus, he was the absolute sweetest little guy!

A Note From Kristi

Working with Emily is a dream come true. We first reached out to her when I was pregnant with our first baby, and planned to do a Fresh 48 session in the hospital. However, COVID hit, and the hospital shut down to visitors. Emily was quick to adjust as necessary and work out a solution for a later in-home session. She is such a pro and made all 3 of us feel at ease (no easy feat dealing with two new parents and a newborn!) Not to mention, the pictures were gorgeous.

When we had our next baby in July 2022, we knew we had to work with her again. Luckily, this time she was able to do our Fresh 48 session in the hospital. I am still gushing over her work. The photos she took will forever be some of our most treasured keepsakes from the early days of our babies. As they say, babies don’t keep. I’m so thankful we had Emily to help us document those special moments with our babies right from the beginning. -Kristi
