In-Home Maternity Session | Katelyn

This in-home maternity session with Katelyn and her family was one of my absolute favorites. Everything from their home decor, the incredible natural light streaming in, and of course the joy and playfulness of their family made this session one of my favorites to shoot. 

This amazing mama is the one and only Katelyn James, an unbelievably gifted wedding photographer who has dedicated much of her career to educating other photographers. Katelyn was our wedding photographer eight years ago, and I was honored when she invited me to capture their older son Graham’s newborn session. When she told me she was expecting their next baby I was over the moon and so excited to be able to capture both her in-home maternity session and in-home newborn session. She is one of the most talented and hard working photographers I know, but more than that, she is a loving wife and mama! 

For their maternity session, we focused on areas of their home that got the most natural light. I loved how the mantel and fireplace shots were already framed by the simple, elegant decor. The shots in their bedroom were so beautiful and playful. Katelyn’s home was truly the perfect place to capture their growing family, with each room so thoughtfully decorated. 

Evy and Micah were cute and had such a great time together throughout the session. Big sister was full of laughter while little brother was so happy and smiley. Each of their portraits in front of the gorgeous fireplace are adorable. 

Katelyn and I worked together to decide on looks for this session. The result was a mix of my studio wardrobe and her personal wardrobe. Both kids were styled perfectly; I loved pairing a dress with overalls, especially on little boys! Katelyn was completely radiant in her flowing, floral patterned dress.
